Abstract: Currently, one of the greatest problems of humanity is the availability of water, especially with regard to the sources and techniques for obtaining this precious liquid, hence the communities are obliged to find better forms of organization to guarantee the operationality of the sources of supply. the same. It is in this context that the present work entitled “Social Capital and its impact on the functioning of drinking water management committees: The case of rural communities in the District of Inharrime emerges. The main objective of the study is to analyze the impact of the social capital of rural communities in the district of Inharrime on the functioning of water management committees. Indeed, it is guided by a central question which is, to what extent the Social Capital of the communities in the study area is sufficiently developed to ensure the full functioning of the water management committees, and it seeks to respond from of a main hypothesis according to which the absence of "de facto communities" characterized by the lack of some elements (schooling, mutual trust, cooperation, interest and participation in public issues), which define the Social Capital of a community, acts negatively in the functioning of the water management committees in the rural communities of the four locations studied, and concepts and theories that support the research are then presented. The research was developed from various research methods and techniques, such as bibliographic review, case study, observation, semi-structured interviews, among others. Based on the methodological lines drawn, the empirical data collected during the fieldwork were analyzed and interpreted and presented in the form of variables that allow examining the veracity of the main hypothesis raised in the study. In the end, the research presents its results that demonstrate that the communities do not have their Social Capital broadly strengthened, in order to be able to function as a social asset favorable to the active participation of the communities in the civic issues that demand their involvement, mainly in what concerns themselves. refers to the functioning of drinking water management committees, validating whether the hypothesis presented for carrying out the research.
