Abstract: Training means the transfer of knowledge, the revitalization of skills and the practical application of what has been learned in formal or informal contexts. Consequently, the trainee has a significant part of his difficulties automatically overcome. The degree of motivation with which he returns to the exercise of his duties is high because it has gained added value to face professional difficulties with a new vision and posture. (Alves and Barata, 2005) The changes that are underway in the Penitentiary Service require that the prison guard staff be endowed with scientific, pedagogical, psychological knowledge, a strong moral conviction and ethical principles, creative initiatives, distinct cultural background, high sensitivity and the mastery of methods and tools for modifying the conduct of prisoners who may be reintegrated into society in the future, once the sentence has expired (PEIJ, 2002) In order to respond to these changes, the Prison Sector must adapt its training program. training, in a way that responds to the new requirements regarding the level of preparation of the Prison Guards. These programs must form a Prison Guard capable of guaranteeing security in the prison, guarantee the rehabilitation of prisoners and guarantee the reinsertion of prisoners in the post-prison period. It should be noted that in the current program, used jointly for the training of prison guards and guards of the Protection Police known as PRM, despite having a positive formative content, it does not meet the needs of the prison sector. This program focuses only on the component of public security and protection of people and property that constitutes the profile of the guard of the PRM, and does not protect the rehabilitation and social reintegration component of the prisoner. Thus, this incompatibility of the current training program for the preparation of prison guards, contributes negatively to the performance of their functions. To this end, the starting point for changing the prison guard's training paradigm imposes the need to reorganize the training program, adding new vii-qualitative elements, fundamentally leveraged in the prevention and education concepts, capable of modifying the exit profile of this professional transforming him into a proactive, dynamic, present and essentially participative figure in the process of regeneration of the prisoner. The present study sought to analyze the Prison Guard training program at Matalane Practical School, seeking to offer subsidies that guide Higher Education Institutions, henceforth, IES, for the adoption of another Program suitable for the specific training of prison guard agents. This curricular reform will, in a way, reduce the various problems that affect this sector. It is an exploratory and descriptive study whose data that support the analysis were obtained through questionnaires. The results obtained show that the lack of a specific program oriented to the training of Prison Guard Agents contributes negatively to the full performance of their functions, which results in the various problems that the prisons face. This study brings important data and elements that may help the National Prison Service and society in general, to intervene in the development and promotion of Human Resources, investing in the qualitative training of Prison Guards as well as improving and organizing their Training System (TRADUÇÃO NOSSA)
