Abstract:
This work aims to understand the spatial situation of the retail trade in the markets of Bairro de
Zimpeto (BZ), in the KaMubukuane Municipal District (DMK), specifically in the Wholesale
Markets of Zimpeto (MGZ) and Annex Market of Zimpeto (MAZ). Focusing on the study of the
expansion of this type of commerce and its implications in the light of theories of urban economy
circuits. In the development of this work, there was a concern to identify the relationship between
this type of commerce and the expansive occupation of urban land. The study was based on
quantitative-qualitative data, derived from field research carried out with various stakeholders,
through direct observation of the study site, surveys and interviews and mapping of economic
activities. Having also served as a base of study, the documental research and the bibliographical
consultation. Based on the study, it was found that in Maputo City (CM) commercial activity has
expanded in the neighborhoods with greater purchasing power, mainly on the main roads. Which,
in a way, has caused increased challenges in urban management, especially with regard to the
management of solid waste produced and transitability, since this expansion takes place in a
mostly horizontal and accelerated way; it is also attracting new investors, both national and
foreign, noting for this reason the explosive appearance of commercial equipment in that
mercantile unit.
