Abstract:
The present study entitled “The Participation and Involvement of the Family System in Preschool
Education - 3 to 5 years of age: The case of the Filipe Samuel Magaia Community – Chinonanquila
"D", Boane District, results from the finding of evidence of weak participation and involvement
of the family system in pre-school education. The Study intends to understand the reasons for the
weak participation of the community and the type of involvement of the family system in the pre-
school education of the community, with a view to promoting greater interaction and integration
of parents and guardians in the activities of the schools. We opted for a mixed, qualitative and
quantitative approach, having been conducted in the form of a case study. The study selected 10
participants, including seven parents/caregivers, two facilitators and the Chair Community
Coordination Committee. Data collection was based on a questionnaire survey, interview,
observation and document analysis. For the analysis of results, content analysis and the SPSS
computer package were used, with readjustment of the database in Excel and respective production
of graphs and tables. The results of the present study indicate that the participation and involvement
of the Family System in Preschool Education is not significant. There is a need for the Institution
of Pre-School Education (IEPE) to improve communication with families so they understand the
importance of their participation and involvement in Pre-School Education. There is also a need
for the sectors that oversee this area to draw up a strategy for mobilizing and involving families
and the community in general in the activities of the school.
