Abstract:
This dissertation addresses the integration of HIV/AIDS contents in the curriculum of the 1st cycle
of general secondary education in the Portuguese subject, seeking to reconcile what is reflected in
the Curriculum of General Secondary Education with the reality found in the classroom. Thus, the
main objective of this research is to analyze how integration, mentioned above, contributes to the
awareness of students in the prevention, treatment and fight against the disease. In this perspective,
it is suspected that the school level is not being given due attention or that its approach in the
classroom by teachers is not being effective. Therefore, not knowing the origin of this situation,
the following research problem was formulated in the expectation of finding sustainable answers:
How the transversal approach of HIV/AIDS in the discipline of Portuguese Curriculum of the 1st
Cycle of Secondary Education General, does it convey the knowledge necessary for the awareness,
prevention and combat of the disease within the students? In order to respond to this problem, we
sought to look at the objectives and contents of the Portuguese course, for teaching strategies, the
role of the teacher and the availability of time for this transversal approach. To carry out the
research, Josina Machel Secondary School was selected for research among six secondary schools
in the Kampfumo District. So for the data collection of this research was used the technique of
observation of classes, of surveys, of interviews and of documentary analysis. After analyzing the
contents in the Portuguese program, the teaching and learning strategies, the role of the teacher
and the availability of time, it was possible to verify that within all these components the
difficulties encountered for integration of HIV /AIDS contents in the curriculum, more specifically
in the classroom, for the production of desired results at the level of the type of individual to be
formed.
