| en_US |

dc.description.resumo | The Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) has a great socio-economic importance and it is one of the sources of income for many families, however, its production throughout the year provides conditions for the occurrence of many diseases particularly viral infection of the tomato Curly Stunt diseases. This disease is considered emerging and limits tomato production in some regions of the country. The virus causing the disease belongs to the genus begomovirus and it is transmitted by whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). To understand the epidemiology of the Tomato Curl Stunt Virus in Mozambique, two studies consisted in rating the temporal progress of ToCSV rating and the evaluetion of distribution of virus in Mozambique were made. For the first study established in June 2011 to May 2012, two experiments with 12 planting dates were isntalled in Chokwe and Umbeluzi Agrarian Research Station; the experimental design was a randomized complete block in factorial, where three varieties were evaluated: HTX -14, UC 82 - B and AVRDC in field conditions. The variables analyzed were the population density of whitefly, the incidence and severity of the disease, and for this purpose three observations at 15, 35 and 55 days after transplantation were made for each transplanting date . Yield data and percentage of yield losses in each planting date were also recorded. The tomate transplanted in November to February showed higher density of tomato whitefly, higher incidence and severity of the disease. In these months the yield was low, with the highest percentage of losses. For the second study, surveys were conducted in 18 districts of the country from February 2011 to July 2012. This objective of this study was to observe the incidence and severity of the Tomato Curl Stunt Virus as well as collecte sample to confirm the presence of the virus by PCR (Polymerase chain Reaction). Our results indicated the persrence of the disease in District 10, where the districts of southern Mozambique showed higher rates. The PCR confirmed the presence of the virus in 6 districts. | en_US |
